Kitchen and Maintenance USA Summer Camp Jobs

Kitchen and Maintenance USA Summer Camp Jobs

BUNAC offer USA KAMP jobs which is an acronym of ‘Kitchen and Maintenance programme’ – and by pure coincidence, it just so happens to look a bit like ‘camp’ too. You could be working in any area of the day-to-day running of the camp such as the kitchen, office or in general maintenance. Whatever you do, you’ll be working with other students on the programme, so there’ll be a good sense of camaraderie and no doubt a bit of banter flying around! Added to this though (and here comes the factual, long-term benefits bit), working abroad is really good for your CV –it shows you’re confident, willing to accept a challenge, a good team worker and that you’ve got a little bit of ‘oomph’ about you. Lecture over!

Will I spend much time with the children?

While you’ll be working with other mature, sensible students (ahem), you’ll get plenty of interaction with the kids if you choose to. But the advantage is that you don’t have to share a cabin with them, and it’s up to the camp counsellors to defuse those tantrums!

Do I get paid?

Yes, you do. You’ll get $1350 for the summer, which is more than those on the Summer Camp USA programme.

Do I have to pay for my flights?

NO! BUNAC pays for your flight and your camp will repay BUNAC once you’ve completed your programme.

What are the camps like?

Summer camps in the USA are a big deal. They’re surrounded by beautiful scenery and have often have fantastic resources for sports, arts and crafts, activities and water sports. We work with a huge variety of camps all over the USA (sports camps, religious camps and special needs camps to name a few), so you’re bound to end up somewhere you’re well-suited to and will enjoy.

Where will I live?

You’ll be sleeping in purpose-built accommodation on camp with other students on the programme for FREE!

How will I find a camp?

Let BUNAC know your preferences and experience and find the camp to which you’d be best suited. Once you accept the placement, job done – and you can get on with planning a fantastic summer!

Can I go with a friend?

If you let BUNAC know that you want to be placed at the same camp as a friend then we can usually find a camp for both of you. But don’t be deterred if you were planning to go out independently – most people head out on their own and come back with a whole new group of friends they’ve made on camp!

When do the camps run?

They usually run between mid-June and mid-August, and you have to be available to work for the whole period.

Will I have an opportunity to travel?

Absolutely. Your visa (arranged by BUNAC) allows you to travel in the USA, Canada and the Caribbean once your work placement has finished for up to 6 weeks.

Do I need an interview?

You do, but you don’t need to leave the comfort of your own home! Sign up on our website, complete the KAMP application form and submit it with your £40 deposit. BUNAC will contact you to arrange the interview within a few days and the £40 is refunded if you’re unsuccessful.

What experience do I need?

There are no strict requirements but some work experience is a definite advantage. If you’ve got specific experience in working as kitchen staff, in an office or in maintenance then that’s even better! The programme is a great way to make some new friends, earn some dollars and spend a summer in the sunshine!

When is the closing date?

People who have applied over the last few weeks are already starting to get placed in camps, so it would be advisable to apply as soon as possible.

How do I book an interview?

Once you've submitted your online application, BUNAC will contact you to arrange your phone interview.

How much does it cost to sign up?

£429 in total

This is made up of:
£40 first deposit (refundable if your application is not accepted)
£164 second payment (£159 refundable if we don’t place you)
£225 when your place is confirmed.

As you get paid $1350 for the summer, you’ll be earning back what you pay – which could fund your travelling after your programme if you choose to do a little backpacking!

Who’s eligible?

Full-time university students who are 18 by 1st June (final year students are also eligible).
